This discerning approach is vividly reflected in the USA throughΒ  their preference for universities that uphold strict gun control measures and progressive reproductive health policies, mirroring their broader societal aspirations.

The recent findings from a Gallup and Lumina Foundation survey are telling. A staggering 84% of prospective students favour institutions with stringent gun policies. This preference transcends political affiliations, with a majority from both sides of the aisle advocating for less restrictive abortion and reproductive health laws. These preferences are not mere whims; they are deliberate choices that highlight the growing influence of state laws and social issues on educational decisions, potentially reshaping college recruitment strategies. Any wonder when eleven states, including Colorado and Texas, explicitly allow concealed carry on campus, according to the Education Commission of the States.

Amidst practical considerations such as tuition fees and future employment opportunities, young individuals are increasingly aligning themselves with Sustainable Development Goals like Quality Education (SDG 4), Gender Equality (SDG 5), and Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10). Their choices are a powerful testament to their commitment to these goals, as they seek out environments that champion these principles.

This trend of β€œvoting with their feet” is a clear indication of the potency of young voices in advocating for change. By opting for institutions that support their beliefs, they are not only expressing their preferences but also influencing the direction of these institutions. As they navigate through their educational journey, they are consciously shaping the societal landscape, ensuring that their values are reflected in the spaces they inhabit.

For a deeper understanding of how these societal shifts are impacting higher education, these graphs shed light on how new state restrictions on abortion access, the teaching of divisive subjects, and campus gun policies have sparked controversy and could significantly influence where students choose to pursue their education.

In the pursuit of creating a more inclusive and equitable world, it’s crucial that we start with education. The Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5 focuses on achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls. As educators, we have a pivotal role in nurturing an understanding and appreciation for gender equality among our students. To this end, we present an engaging project aimed at students in stages 2 and 3: Designing a Gender-Equal Society. 🌍✨

This reusable learning artefact is crafted to empower students to envision and create models of societies that champion gender equality. Through collaborative group work, students will explore and tackle aspects such as education, employment, and family roles, fostering a holistic understanding of gender equity. The project culminates in students presenting their envisioned societies to their classmates, either through a compelling class presentation or a creative visual representation. 🎨πŸ‘₯

Getting Started

Step 1: Introduction to Gender Equality and Gender Equity

Begin with an interactive session introducing the concepts of gender equality and gender equity.
